Falling Upwards

As of this post, NO PART OF IT label is exactly 10 years old.  With that, we have a bandcamp sale at 85% off with the code "ten".  It's a bit dusty over there, I have to admit, but please allow me to bring to your attention (if it hasn't been brought there yet), 333REDUX, the most recent digital release, which is a DVD with either a pro menu or a data disc option, including 5 videos and a surround sound piece, around 5 hours in total by 33 different artists.  And of course there are the prior label releases, which are still in print if they were released on pro CDR, and still available digitally if they were released on limited edition cassettes.  We stand by everything we've ever released.    It may have been sparse compared to other labels, but the value of a regret-free catalog supersedes the large gaps of (apparent) inactivity.  Enjoy, and thanks to those who have supported us over the years!

A track from Machine Listener's Sentient System was aired on a new podcast division of the review site Houdini Mansions.




Also from Houdini Mansions is a sort of series of rabbit-out-of-a-hat type ghost roulette collaborations.  Arvo Zylo contributed unreleased source material, which happened to be combined with the work of noise friend Malocussion, of Ratskin Records and Styrofoam Sanchez.  "featuring electronic embellishment by Sceptre Fretpen".

Arvo's final version of Upheaval on Pan Y Rosas label was reviewed in Wire.  

Arvo was a guest Dj on Hollow Earth Radio in March, for the Legal Counsel Radio Show.   It features tracks from Ministry's experimental record, Food and Shelter, XORDOX, a track from Hal McGee's early Electronic Cottage compilations, a self-hypnosis record from the 60s, and more.

Ataraxic Ataxia was aired on WZRD, alongside  Lionel Marchetti, Pedestrian Deposit, Francis Dhomont, Swans, Faust, Attrition, Alarm Will Sound, Tod Dockstader, Huey "Piano" Smith, and more.  

Arvo was a guest DJ (remotely, in spirit) for WLPN's Release the Hounds radio show, hosted by old friends L. Vomito and Bryan of Spare Change playing around the axis points of punk and metal.   Some select cuts included GG Allin, the Shitlickers, Rancid Hell Spawn, Nightmare, Wendy O. Arvo guest (remotely) on WLPN (Chicago) Release The Hounds (Metal/Punk Radio Show)

Arvo did a guest mix for the radio show Electronic Tuesday on Radio 1 Prague.   It features a mixture of his favorite electronic music and noise across a variety of genres.  Some tracks by Imminent Starvation, Dead Tech, Subliminal, Mnemonists, Maria Zerfall, NAMANAX, and so on...  Previous episodes have included interviews with Z'ev, Snog, and Paolo Bandera (of Sigillum S, SShe Retina Stimulants).   Thanks to Electronic Tuesday and Radio 1 Prague!

Arvo gave a brief interview with Ditlev Buster on Electronic Cottage, a new community-minded site for experimental enthusiasts.   The interview is short and to the point, but thorough, including scans of old NO PART OF IT newsletters from when the label operated outside of the internet, "Assembly" LP covers, live videos, and the like. 

Illusion of Safety's final release, Surrender, was reviewed at Haunted Mansions!  

Here is an excerpt:  As each questionable machine breathes its last sputtering breath, and the pools of battery acid begin to dry, leaving their discolored epitaphs on the cement floor, the listener knows that they were in the professionally trained hands of master noise-makers at the top of their craft.

 Arvo's collected collaborations with Kommisar Hjuler und Mama Baer have been released in a 3 tape set.  Each copy is a unique piece of art based on original material from Kommisar Hjuler's initial releases, which were in bound folio folders with mixed pages of content that is dada in nature, as a whole.  Three tapes are affixed to a board and integrated into collage art, which itself has a clothes hanger affixed to it for wall hanging.  Each copy is assembled, with an apparent over-abundance of found pornography, by the head of the label.  We are under the impression that several rusted nails are glued to every copy as well.   The content collects 2012's 2xCDR "UND" release, which was limited to 9 copies, as well as 2 other pieces which were extremely limited in a similar nature, including Kommisar Hjuler und Mama Baer's impromptu rendition of segments from the film, Barbarella, with soundtrack accompaniment/fucked up sounds by Arvo Zylo.   Extended material is also included.   The Swedish label Obskyr Records is now offering pre-order on discogs.  The release is limited to 33 hand-numbered copies. 

Arvo did a sound collage oriented radio segment for Mid Valley Mutations.  LISTEN HERE

 Arvo did an interview with psychic/noise artist Sarah Wreck for Heathen Harvest.

Arvo's 100th and final version of "Upheaval" was released by netlabel Pan Y Rosas.  Clocking in at around 4 hours long, it was initially aired at Sound Art Radio in the UK during their "drone week" last summer, although it is not strictly drone music at all; more process oriented. 



There are 4 new releases on NO PART OF IT.  These are each splits with Arvo Zylo and another artist; Andrew Quitter, BBJR, PBK, and Marlo Eggplant.  Each edition is on C40 tapes dubbed in real time and is limited to 25 hand numbered copies, which come with hand stamped pieces of wallpaper and a vintage black and white photo from before 1950.   Very few remain.

Arvo was interviewed on Austin Rich's Anywhere Anywhen Radio Show.  Topics discussed were involving the nature of animals, death, artistic intention, personal history, Halloween records, The Addams Family, and his recent move, among other things.

 Arvo did a guest mix for the webzine and netlabel DECAYCAST.  The mix features tracks by The Beachles, Le Forte Four, Japanese surf music, a Thai pop song popularized by the Butthole Surfers, a live bootleg cover of KISS by FOETUS, a rare experimental sound art venture by Walls of Genius, sound artist Dave Phillips' field recordings of tribal music from around the world, and more.   Listen here!

 Machine Listener was reviewed at KFJC:

A wide range of sounds across the Noise spectrum. There is a sort of “musical” element to some of the tracks–musical as in minimal melodies and drones and repeating patterns of notes, and Tracks 4, 5, and 7 are probably more power ambient than noise. You’d still want to file this under Noise though. The first track starts off gently with a soft drone but not long after the one-minute mark the thing suddenly jumps the rails and starts throwing alarming noises at you. Machine Listener is a solo project by Matthew Gallagher. It’s quite interesting, actually.

The first full length of Upheaval versions was on Tymbal Tapes, and recently was sampled on this WZRD archive. The only release on the no part of it label for 2017 is a very limited split c40 cassette between long-standing Seattle collective FHTAGN and Arvo Zylo.  The FHTAGN side features layers of string instruments ranging from orchestral and spatial swells to chaotic skronk.  Arvo Zylo's side is an unfinished alternate soundtrack to the film Killer Klowns from Outer Space.  It can be played in sequence for the first 20 minutes of the movie, including a screwed up mess where the Dickies' original song would be in the opening credits.  Think early Boredoms meets electro-Jandek meets a 19 year old with a sequencer and without a week of sleep and you'd have a vaguely reasonable approximation.  Tapes are dubbed by Bob Bucko Jr, and are clear with lovely yellow leader tape.  They come with a hand-numbered insert, a hand-stamped piece of vintage wallpaper, and an old black and white photograph.  Limited to 25 copies, these are already almost gone here.  A few copies remain.  Get in touch if interested.  Otherwise, RRRECORDS may still have some, or maybe talk to PERSONAL ARCHIVES. 

Sequencer Works Volume Three was placed at #17 for Tabs Out's top 200 cassettes of 2017.  The tape itself can be heard here, but physical copies are still available from ka-rye-eye tapes here.  

Wilt was reviewed track for track by Memory Wave Transmission.  Here is an excerpt:  

 Nocturnal Requiem is my first Wilt experience, but based on the dark ambient material offered here, I would love to check out more. This duo is able to conjure up eerie tones, but the album shows their range with a couple of dynamic tracks that sees Wilt stepping out of its comfort zone.
